What is J-Term?
This is a comprehensive, winter term, pre-hospital program being sponsored by Middlebury College and Middlebury Regional EMS. This program will give students the opportunity to be nationally certified EMTs and be licensed to practice in the state of Vermont.
This EMT Class is directed toward first and second year students thinking of taking a pre-med trek. Non-pre-med student may also be considered. Once licensed as an EMT you will be invited to join MREMS as a volunteer where you can obtain additional clinical skills by running as an attendant on an ambulance. As a member of MREMS you may also have an opportunity to participate as a medical care giver for the Rugby team, working with the Open Door Clinic, as well with other College and community events.
When is J-Term?
A fall information meeting will be offered on September 16th at 5:30PM in Axinn 229. Watch for posters around campus for this meeting. Registration is from Mid-September to Mid-October or until the quota for the class is filled.
The tuition fee must accompany the application. Class size is limited to 24 College students. Two slots will be available for interested individuals outside the College who may wish to take the class. Deadline for outside registration is October 15th. Once the application is submitted with the fee, a refund may not be possible. So be sure before you submit your paperwork.
This is a four week program beginning on January 11th and will end on February 6th. Classes are scheduled four days a week (M-T, T-F) from 8:00am to 5:00pm. You must attend all classes.
What are the prerequisites?
Two required pre-class programs will be offered in November and December. November’s program will be Hazardous Material Awareness and December’s program will be Healthcare CPR. Dates will be provided at a later time but classes will be on Saturdays.
