Middlebury Regional EMS strives to be be a community-focused emergency response agency by offering high-quality prehospital care, comprehensive emergency communications services, robust heavy rescue assistance and providing healthcare education to the citizens that we serve.

By integrating these services into one agency, we aim to establish ourselves as a cornerstone of emergency response in our service area, fostering a safer and more informed community.

Our Leadership

  • Kate Rothwell

    Executive Director
    Paramedic

    Rothwell has been working in EMS for over 20 years and spent spent over 10 years as a volunteer firefighter for various departments in Addison County. She joined MREMS in 2013 and soon became an integral part of the agency, serving as the agency Training Officer, and later Deputy Director. In 2019 she was appointed the Executive Director of our agency and hasn't looked back since. Under Rothwell's leadership MREMS has become a strong and multi-dimensional non-profit public safety agency, resulting in the award of 2022 Ambulance Service of the Year by Vermont Health Department’s EMS Division.

  • Walker Randall

    Deputy Director
    Paramedic

    Born and raised in Waitsfield, Vermont, Randall developed a passion for the field of EMS in 2016 working with Mad River Valley Ambulance Service. He continued his education at Springfield College obtaining a BA in Emergency Medical Services Management and becoming a Nationally Registered Paramedic. Since joining MREMS in 2021 he has made it his mission to make us one of the premiere EMS agencies in Vermont. In addition to his duties at MREMS, he serves as a Disaster Medical Specialist for the State of Vermont's Urban Search and Rescue Team, VT-TF1.

  • Matthew Abare

    Communications Director
    Advanced EMT

    Hailing from Addison, Vermont, Abare joined MREMS in 2013 and has worked tirelessly for our EMS and Communications Divisions since as an A-EMT and a dispatcher. With nearly 20 years of experience in EMS and public safety he was tapped to lead our Communications Division and was appointed the Director of Communications at MREMS in 2024.
